When a child was reported missing, federal law required the child to enter the FBI’s National Crime Information Center, and as per the FBI, there were 421,394 entries for missing children last 2019. The total number of missing children entries was 424,066 in 2018.

The figure was the number of missing children’s cases. Assuming that if a child ran away multiple times a year, each occasion, the NCIC was entered separately and counted in the cumulative sum of the year. If the entries were deleted or changed, the total number would also be affected.
