Kwan continued, “I ended up 2nd place in the ’94 championships, but at 12-years old, I almost quit.” She was excelling at competitions but she felt the burden of her family’s financial demands immensely. Besides feeling the financial pressure Kwan had other issues riding on her shoulders during her time as a pro athlete.

Building Momentum
The momentum started building in 1992 as Kwan had journeyed her way to World Junior Figure Skating Champion in 1994- her first title in this regard. Just a year later she returned to the United States Championship for figure skating, where she came in second place.
