At first, the rescuers could not really tell the number of puppies inside the grate, so they had to wait until all the animals were out. Fortunately, the sewer only seemed deep but was actually not. This made it easier for the team to get the babies out.

It must have been really confusing for the puppies since they were in a cold and dark sewer, and then they were suddenly surrounded by people. The small babies huddled together in order to keep warm. It appeared as if they had been in the sewer for more than a few days.
