Nadya had already made headlines, as well as websites and newspapers before her octuplets were born. People began to recognize her; almost everyone knew her as Octomom. Nadya tried to keep control of the story and the various reports about her, and she considered using the attention to help support her large family financially. She hired a public relations team after the birth of her octuplets in the hopes of being able to control the story that was shared with the public, but this proved to be a difficult task.

After giving birth to her octuplets, Nadya received the same amount of media attention, earning her a slew of critics who accused her of desiring the limelight and even claimed that this was the real reason she chose to have all of her children despite the risks she took. Meanwhile, Nadya was preoccupied with adjusting to her new public persona and raising 14 children! Her pregnancy and delivery were contentious enough, but Californians also accused Nadya of squandering taxpayer funds and embodying practically everything that is wrong with modern America, and she was even threatened!
