Everyone was eager to see how LaRue Martin, the first overall selection in 1972, would do in the NBA. Unfortunately, his potential had not been realized four years later. He quit the league and went to work for UPS as an entry-level employee to help pay the expenses. It was fortunate that his perseverance and hard effort were rewarded. He was promoted to Community Services Manager in 2005. Aside from his 9-5 work, he is also a member of the National Basketball Retired Players Association’s Board of Directors.

Oscar Robertson – An Advocate For Affordable Housing
This old-school basketball player had a long and prosperous career. Oscar Robertson was a 12-time All-Star in the NBA during his 14-year career and retired as one of the league’s leading scorers. His most remarkable achievement, however, was his effort to provide affordable housing for African-Americans in Indianapolis. His efforts have resulted in significant improvements in the neighborhood. The University of Cincinnati bestowed upon him an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 2007. It was well earned!
