This tax base loss has led to the city itself declaring bankruptcy. Dilapidated and abandoned houses litter the city, which likely scare off potential residents.

St. Louis, Missouri
St. Louis may be well-known for its cool landmarks like the Union Station, Gateway Arch and St. Louis Zoo, but this American heartland city earned a bad rap due to a few seedy statistics. St. Louis has the “distinction” of being the top U.S. city when it comes to the most cosmetic surgeons per capita and the highest obesity and violence rates. It is basically screaming “Stay away!”
