Sergeant York (1941)
This had to be one of the first movies we’ve ever seen. Sergeant York is a 1941 film that depicts the life of Alvin York, a World War I soldier. He was one of the most decorated troops of the fight after killing 25 German soldiers and capturing 132 more. York was on set as an advisor, which helped keep the film accurate to the story. The film was the highest-grossing picture of the year, showing the reality of war. The film also boosted American morale at a time when the country was about to enter World War II.

Das Boot (1981)
Another German film that did not shy away from exposing the horrors of war has recently been released. The plot is set in 1942 and follows the crews of German U-Boats during the Battle of the Atlantic. People liked how it gave a realistic portrayal of life within a submarine and highlighted how German soldiers struggled to understand what the Nazi party was up to. Das Boot, regarded as one of the best films about U-Boat soldiers, was able to portray the people who lived through the war in a dark but genuine manner.
