Indeed, they found a green torpedo in the basement. They then spoke to an army veteran and were told that it was either a lightweight anti-tank weapon or mortar from the Vietnam and Korean War. The authorities also came to take it away. The DeForests learned that folks kept bombs as souvenirs!
