Michael Bloomberg – $34 billion
Michael Bloomberg is the former mayor of New York City. He made a fortune as the owner of a financial information company bearing his name. He has two daughters but signed the Giving Pledge by Buffett and Gates anyway. In the letter, he wrote, “If you want to do something for your children and show how much you love them, the single best thing—by far—is to support organizations that will create a better world for them and their children.” His very own Bloomberg Philanthropic Foundation focuses on different causes such as literacy and health care.
Pierre Omidyar – $7.6 billion
Best known as the founder of eBay, Pierre Omidyar and his wife plan to give away their incredible wealth. In 2001, he explained, “We have more money than our family will ever need.” He went on to add, “There’s no need to hold onto it when it can be put to use today, to help solve some of the world’s most intractable problems.” Together with his spouse, he launched the Humanity United Foundation that supports nonprofits focused on anti-slavery.
