John is also a trapper. He was trying to catch coyotes one day to keep them away from pets and farms in the area. However, he is used to catching other animals now. Apparently, his baits attract creatures other than his target!

In the photo above, you will see that he once caught a red fox. To avoid injuries, he used a piece of plywood to free it as well. It might be a much smaller creature, but it is known for its infectious bites.
And Badgers Too
With the previously mentioned animals, it is not unreasonable to think that John has caught everything he could. Who would have thought that smaller mammals tend to be more aggressive?

He once caught an American badger, creatures known to be ferocious enough to fight black bears. John had to be careful when he dealt with this animal. They are violent and fearless, so they are dangerous.
