It took them a year to hear various opinions from experts, but some of them were skeptical about it. Their worst fears became their reality when they brought the photo to Witherell’s Old West Show in Grass Valley, Northern California. What did they learn over there?

As they searched for Brian Libel, the same man who brokered the deal on the original and only verified photo of Billy the Kid, a different expert went in and told the couple that the photo must be fake. After all, they did not have proof to back up the authenticity of the photographs. Linda and Randy were heartbroken, but they still felt convinced that this was a great piece of history.
