Sarah Hughes

Sarah Hughes began skating at the age of three, following her dad, a hockey college player, onto the icy creek. She is one of the youngest skating gold medalists to win before her 17th birthday. Hughes is also the only American woman to win Olympic Gold without first winning a world or a U.S. sports title. Her mother’s a survivor of breast cancer, and Hughes said, “I always said that if I can get mammography from a person, I’ve done something.”

Sasha Cohen is the latest American woman to receive an individual Olympic medal in the 2006 Games after winning silver. Actually, before starting in gymnastics, Cohen began to figure skating at the age of seven. After 2006, she announced she would retire from skating competitively and go for entertainment and skate with Stars on Ice. Cohen was not selected for the U.S. team after retiring for the Olympics 2010. Since then, she has pursued her financial interest and work at Morgan Stanley as an associate.
