Billy Miske

Boxer Billy Miske was known as the Saint Paul Thunderbolt, having been a successful light-heavyweight and heavyweight fighter in the 1920s. His career was cut short due to Bright’s Disease, a deadly kidney disorder. His family had struggled financially after his retirement, and while doctors gave him just a few months to live, Billy decided to fight one last time to earn enough money to buy his kids Christmas presents. Even though he was too sick to train, he amazingly knocked out his opponent, Bill Brennan, in the fourth round. Two months later, Billy passed away from kidney failure.
