1995: Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye

According to The Bleacher Report, the 1995 halftime performance was “the craziest, weirdest, most unbelievable—and many would say the worst—Super Bowl halftime show ever.” Tony Bennett, Patti LaBelle, Teddy Pendergrass, and the Miami Sound Machine participated in the show. In its defense, the NFL claimed Michael Jackson’s halftime show set new standards for performances. The Senior Vice President of Special Events Jim Steeg explained, “After Michael Jackson, a lot of big, A-list talent was afraid to compete with him.” This performance came with an Indiana Jones actor, live pythons, skydivers, and stunt people. Yikes.

2000: Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, Tina Turner

You might also want to consider the Edward James Olmos and Toni Braxton performance in 2000. Here was what For the Win had to say about the singing acts: “The singers performed five songs. More than a decade later, I doubt there’s a single person who could name them, Collins and Aguilera included.” There was an orchestra for the opening, followed by a Disney-sponsored duet by Enrique and Christina Aguilera. Sadly, the Broadway treatment of Lion King did not fly with the audience.
