Late September 2019 – Guest-Editing Vogue

After the announcement that Meghan was going to guest-edit the British Vogue issue for September, people responded both positively and negatively. They discussed if a member of the royal family should be allowed to do this, even if she was not the first one to do such a thing. The cover came with portraits of 15 women who were handpicked as “forces for change.” The duchess commissioned the articles in the magazine too. The fact that she allegedly left the Queen out of the cover got criticized and fed fuel to rumors that there was a growing feud between Meghan and the Palace.

The Mail on Sunday published a handwritten letter that young Meghan sent her father in October. Meghan decided to respond by filing a lawsuit against the newspaper and claiming that she needed to “take action” against “relentless propaganda.” Harry launched his own verbal attack on the press with strong words. He said that his “deepest fear is history repeating itself,” and added, “I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person.” When he spoke to Radio 4, Harry conceded that tabloids did not have as much power as they used to back when his mother was still alive.
