The papers reported that the couple would join Queen Elizabeth in Balmoral in the summer. There were also rumors that Her Highness planned to throw Meghan a birthday party over there. In the end, the couple did not show up at the historical site and headed for Europe instead. They went to Ibiza and the south of France to pay their pal Elton John a visit. Of course, the public was not impressed to learn that they used private jets to get to those places. In fact, it only brought more scrutiny about their decisions.

When they went on a tour of South Africa, the couple was involved in a documentary in which they spoke about their struggles. Meghan said that she “really tried to adopt this sensibility of the British stiff upper lip, but I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging. I never thought this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair.” Harry shared similar sentiments and said, “I will not be bullied into playing a game that killed my mum. For me and my wife, of course, there’s a lot of stuff that hurts… especially when the majority of it is untrue.” The Prince also revealed that the two of them had talked about living in Africa for some time, even if it was only part-time.
