Honorable Mention: Idaho – 29.3% Obesity Rate
Idaho had always been associated with huckleberry, and the purple berries could be added to anything like cheesecake, ice cream, and syrup. It was the reason the state had received recognition and attention. It was not a known fact, but there were several hidden family-owned huckleberry farms within Idaho. It was unfortunate that the sugar had a consequence on the residents and why Idaho had a 29.3% obesity rate.
Honorable Mention: Maine – 29.1% Obesity Rate
Maine, the largest state in New England, had an obesity percentage of 29.1, and it placed them as the second fattest within the region. A medical expert interviewed in NBC News, and the theory was, “Fresh fruit and produce were not easy to find in Maine. We’re a rural state, parts of Maine have low-income populations, so we know that in a rural state, many people don’t have access.”
