With no upkeep over the course of half a century, some wear and tear could be expected, but otherwise, the underground structure was in good condition. There wasn’t anything inside it, but John and his friends realized what it once was. The blueprints state that Whitaker Pools built the structure, but it definitely wasn’t a swimming pool.

A Historical Find

The structure underneath John’s yard is actually a nuclear fallout shelter, built at the peak of the Cold War tensions. People wanted bomb shelters in their backyards instead of swimming pools. As John learned more about the structure, it dawned on him that he was not alone.
