Something Called Biliverdin
If you do not know a thing about dogs and canine anatomy, you probably do not know what biliverdin is. This refers to the green bile pigment found in the womb of a dog. Although we have yet to learn what its exact function is, we do know that all female dogs carry it in the womb.
This only goes to show that it plays some function in the canine pregnancy cycle. Perhaps it helps give the puppies the essential nutrients they need while in the womb. Some people have come up with the theory that they cannot survive without this.
Not Common Whatsoever
You do not normally observe the effects of biliverdin among pups. While it is always there in their blood, the pigment does not often make itself visible to the naked eye. However, there are times when a strange phenomenon occurs. The biliverdin sometimes gets mixed up in the amniotic fluid of the womb!
It would seem like the unique pup got lucky with the amniotic sac. The good news is that the biliverdin did not do anything but to stain the color of his fur! Even though it might not sound that strange, this has only happened a couple of times in all of history.
