84C MoPic (1989)
84C MoPic, sometimes known as 84 Charlie MoPic, was released in 1989. This spoof documentary follows a videographer assigned to an LRRP unit during the Vietnam War. Although it is one of the earliest “found footage” films, it is completely correct. Everything was historically true, from the malfunctioning weaponry to the radio transmission to the language they employed. “There are no distracting subplots, only the urgent fight for survival,” an American Iraq War veteran stated. What we can take away from this is that independent films can be even more precise than large-scale productions.

Hamburger Hill (1987)
Hamburger Hill isn’t well-known for a reason. It was released nine months after Platoon, and it was eclipsed by Full Metal Jacket, which came out a month later. It properly depicted the daily lives of an average battle platoon, despite the fact that it received little media notice. The movie just showed us what life is like on a daily basis, rather than presenting it in a larger context. They perfected the “grunt lingo” to the point where subtitles were required. The battle scenes were also “as close as you could hope for,” according to a historian.
