James Gandolfini
James Gandolfini is one of the most tragic cases of a supreme talent being shot down in their prime. The ‘Sopranoes’ star died due to heart complications while having dinner with his son on a vacation. These complications were probably due in large part to his obesity, but they could definitely have been propagated by Gandolfini’s prolific drug addiction earlier in his life. After his messy divorce from ex-wife Marcy, details began to leak about his drug problems that apparently dogged him his entire life. Gandolfini had a history of cocaine and alcohol abuse that sent him to rehab on a ‘routine basis’. While Gandolfini kept this info on lock down for the majority of his career, it still got out and is now thought to have played a part in his sudden heart attack.
Leonard Nemoy
You wouldn’t think that a Vulcan would need rehab, right? Well, we have to assume that Nimoy is not quite as invincible as his famous character from ‘Star Trek’. Nimoy, who played Spock on the famous television show, admitted to the press that his work on the show led him to a case of alcohol addiction. Nemoy, in an interview with William Shatner, explained that he began to drink on set and often as soon as the last shot was done. He said he did it in order to deal with the pressures of fame and his sudden larger than life role. Nemoy ended up in rehab and after marrying Susan Boy in 1988 has been clean ever since.
