The 42 state championships of Washington High School are the highest among all American high schools. The first 14 of these came under coach Howard Wood. Washington also has a stunning streak of 14 consecutive titles from 1952 to 1965. The record title haul of the team also comes with 33 years without any titles. The draught happened from 1976 to 2009.

The current New Canaan High head coach is none other than Lou Marinelli, who is in his 39th season. They have 12 state titles under his name. He is the career leader for wins in Connecticut as well. In 2019, the school, which boasts of 22 state championships, saw its first product go on to make an NFL roster in the form of Zach Allen who is the defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals.
