Queen Elizabeth released her own statement after the meeting and expressed support for Harry and Meghan. “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,” she said, “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.” However, she admitted, “We would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal Family.” Still, they “respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family” since “Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds.” She acknowledged that there needs to be a period of transition, so they need to split their time between the UK and Canada. She concluded, “There is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”

The rumors only added to the speculation that the Duchess is not treated like a true member of the royal family. It is either that or she wanted to opt out. At any rate, we can tell you that she did not come with Harry back to the U.K. after the holidays.
