Early May 2019 – Nontraditional Birth Announcement

Archie, their first kid, was born in May 2019. Everyone raised an eyebrow after they let everyone know that he would not get a title. Instead, they asked for their son to be called “Master” and personally revealed his gender through Instagram. As you can see, they decided to do things their own way. The public did not find out when Meghan went to the hospital nor about the photo call two days later. For the later, they hand-picked the members of the press who were present. In another deviation from the norm, Meghan decided to have a camera team from CBS, an American TV network, to join in on the fun.

Late May 2019 – Racist British Radio Host

Later that month, Meghan suffered more racial abuse. It was a lot more public than before, however. A British radio show host called Danny Baker took to Twitter to post a photo of a chimpanzee in reference to Archie. Because he is a mixed child, people found it insensitive and racist. The host later got fired after this controversy. He said that he did not post it with racist intentions and only wanted to compare circus animals and royals. He later said in a tweet, “Would have used same stupid pic for any other Royal birth or Boris Johnson kid or even one of my own.” He went on, “It’s a funny image. (Though not of course in that context.) Enormous mistake, for sure. Grotesque.” Still, he apologized: “Anyway, here’s to ya Archie, Sorry mate.”
