Islands are really cool because they are essentially another country, within a country. Within the Philippines, there is Palawan Island which is a stunning area with nearly 36,000 residents and 20,000 visitors! That just doesn’t make sense! There are not enough places to sleep, and or local food to go around. Locals are angry that their farmlands have been ruined to build resorts and hotels. While tourists used to come for the genuine natural beauty, now it’s about getting a good tan.

While you may not notice the number of tourists in Colombia, the locals are very much aware of their presence. Due to the amount of tourism, Colombia has changed its development plans, which angers Colombians. In Cartegna, Colombia’s tourism capital, the developments are funded by foreign developers and they are fixated on income they receive from tourists, instead of how they’re affecting locals.
