Giovanni Battista Sidotti

Giovanni Battista Sidotti was an apostolic missionary born in 1668. On a mission to spread Christianity, he went to Japan. This was a suicide mission and involved him wearing a samurai disguise. He was not able to convince anyone and was jailed until he died in 1714. He is known as “the last missionary.”

They found his remains in a rather intact state. In 2014, a 2 million-yen excavation led to the discovery of his body. With his remains, researchers were able to recreate the missionary. Even though the skull did see some damage, forensic anthropologists were still able to bring him back to life!
